Make sure there's enough to go around: A festival-goer cuts the longest cake ever made (according to the Guiness Book of World Records) at the Festival of the Three Kings, a Roman Catholic celebration, held at City Hall Sunday.

UH lecturer sues the University for breach of contract

With less than a week remaining before students and faculty head back to class, a returning UH political science lecturer involved in a child custody dispute seeks a federal court injunction forcing the university administration to fulfill an employment agreement extended to him in July.

Maggard introduced to UH community; Smith happy

Vowing to "awaken the sleeping giant," Dave Maggard was formally welcomed to his new job as director of UH's troubled athletics program in a Tuesday ceremony at the Athletics/Alumni Center.

McNally's strong voice almost makes up

No Doubt resurrects the '80s on 'Rock Steady'

No Doubt's new album Rock Steady is a departure from the band's previous work. The follow-up to 2000's Return of Saturn features a sound much more closely derived from pop music than earlier No Doubt efforts. No Doubt has been together for 15 years and the album is the band's third since achieving national prominence in 1995 with the release of Tragic Kingdom.

Caster: New Year means new hope

Happy New Year. In the past, this time of year has been a time of personal focus and introspection, complete with the making of New Year's resolutions. It's a time of extravagant parties and celebration. It marks a new beginning for everyone ... a chance to start over and accomplish that which we failed to the year before.

M. Basketball: Cougars can't clost out close contests

The Cougar men's basketball team is getting pretty good at falling just short of a win against quality opponents. Very good, in fact.

W.Basketball: Poor shooting costs Lady cougars conference opener

The UH women's basketball team lost to highly regarded Texas Christian 61-49 Sunday in the Conference USA opener for both teams. The loss drops the Lady Cougars to 9-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Horned Frogs moved to 11-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference.

Swimming: Cougar swimmers set personal records in Hawaii

The UH women's basketball team finished the first month of the season with one of its best starts ever, going 6-1 with its only loss coming to the No. 14-ranked Colorado Buffaloes.
