Campus Crime Update
The following is a partial report of campus crime between Dec. 9 and 13. All information is selected from the files of the UH Police Department. The information in italics indicates when the event was reported to UHPD and the event's location. Information or questions regarding the cases below should be directed to UHPD at (713) 743-0600.
Indecent exposure: 10:01 p.m. Dec. 9, M.D. Anderson Memorial Library third floor -- A student reported an unknown man exposed his genitals in a way that offended and alarmed her at 9:19 p.m.
Duty upon striking an unattended vehicle: 11:42 a.m. Dec. 10, Parking Lot 11A -- A student reported an unknown person struck her parked, unattended vehicle and did not leave the information required by law. A witness saw the incident and left a note on the student's vehicle with a description of the striking car and its license plate number. There is one suspect; an investigation is under way. Occurred between 9 and 11:30 a.m. Dec. 9.
Theft: 1:30 p.m. Dec. 10, Cullen Performance Hall -- A student reported the theft of her laptop computer, which she left unattended and unsecured. The student suspects staff members of taking the computer; an investigation is under way. Occurred between 1 p.m. Nov. 21 and 7:50 a.m. Nov. 22.
Telephone harassment: 3:07 p.m. Dec. 10, Moody Towers north 10th floor -- A student reported an unknown male called repeatedly and let the telephone ring. Occurred at 3 a.m. Dec. 7.
Theft: 4:21 p.m. Dec. 10, Hofheinz Pavilion -- A staff member reported an unknown person(s) stole toilet paper from the men's and women's rest rooms in Hofheinz Pavilion between 10:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and 4 p.m. Dec. 10.
Theft: 11:18 p.m. Dec. 10, Heyne Building second floor -- A staff member reported an unknown person(s) stole her unattended, unsecured purse and its contents and her jacket from a hallway between 10:30 and 11 p.m. All the items were recovered.
Criminal mischief: 2:20 a.m. Dec. 11, Parking Lot 1B -- Police officers noticed the driver's side window on a student's vehicle was broken while they were on routine patrol. Occurred between 11:30 p.m. Dec. 10 and 2 a.m. Dec. 11.
Criminal mischief: 7:31 a.m. Dec. 11, University Center -- A staff member reported an unknown person(s) shattered a wall mirror in a men's rest room between 2 and 7:30 a.m.
Assault: 1:59 p.m. Dec. 11, Cougar Place -- A student reported a known visitor assaulted her in her Cougar Place room at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 11. An investigation is under way.
Criminal mischief: 5:47 p.m. Dec. 11, Moody Towers south 13th floor -- A student reported an unknown person(s) entered her unattended, unsecured room and poured body lotion and powder on her bed and floor between 5 and 5:15 p.m.
Burglary: 10:20 p.m. Dec. 11, Parking Lot 19B -- A UH officer reported a parked vehicle had a shattered window and had been broken into. The owner was contacted and reported several items had been stolen from the car. Occurred between 3 and 10:20 p.m.
Possession of marijuana: 11:35 p.m. Dec. 11, Cullen Oaks -- Officers responded to the report of the smell of marijuana coming from an apartment. They found a small amount of marijuana but were unable to find anyone in possession of it. No charges were filed, but five students were issued Student Life Referrals and one visitor was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning.
Reckless driving: 12:29 a.m. Dec. 12, Bayou Oaks -- A visitor was driving erratically through the Bayou Oaks parking lot and lost control of his motorcycle, causing damage to a section of fence. The visitor was arrested and booked into Harris County Jail.
Driving while intoxicated: 5:50 a.m. Dec. 12, 4000 block of Elgin Avenue -- A visitor was stopped for failing to maintain a single marked lane and was found to be intoxicated. The visitor was arrested and booked into Harris County Jail.
Assault: 4:15 p.m. Dec. 12, Moody Towers south information desk -- A staff member reported a known male threatened him with bodily injury, then began poking the staff member in the chest in an attempt to start a fight. The staff member was not in imminent fear, but was offended by the contact. He refused to press charges; Student Life and Residential Life referrals were issued.
Burglary: 5:11 p.m. Dec. 13, Parking Lot 11A -- A student reported
an unknown person(s) stole his cellular telephone from his parked, secured
vehicle between 9:45 p.m. Dec. 12 and 10:30 a.m. Dec. 13.
