Campus Crime Report

The following is a partial report of campus crime between Dec. 3 and Friday. All information is selected from the files of the UH Police Department. The information in italics indicates when the event was reported to UHPD and the event's location. Information or questions regarding the cases below should be directed to UHPD at (713) 743-0600.

Driving while intoxicated: 3:40 a.m. Dec. 3, 3600 block of Cullen Boulevard -- A student was arrested and transported to Harris County Jail for driving while intoxicated after being stopped for running red lights at Cullen and Entrance 14, Cullen and Elgin and Cullen and the Gulf Freeway.

Theft: 12:33 p.m. Dec. 3, College of Optometry -- A faculty member reported two UH-issued laptop computers were stolen from his unsecured office between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Assault: 8:47 p.m. Dec. 3, Moody Towers entrance -- A student reported two unknown female visitors assaulted her between 8:40 and 8:45 p.m. She said a known individual had assaulted her Dec. 2 and suggested the two incidents were related. An investigation is under way.

Assault: 2:06 a.m. Dec. 4, Bayou Oaks -- A student was arrested for assaulting a staff member while the staff member was responding to a loud noise complaint. The student was issued Student Life and Residential Life referrals and was transported to Harris County Jail. Occurred between 2:05 and 2:30 a.m.

Burglary: 5:05 a.m. Dec. 4, Parking Lot 4A -- A student reported an unknown person(s) stole the stereo and compact discs from his parked, secured vehicle between 3 and 5 a.m.

Criminal mischief: 8:15 a.m. Dec. 4, Cullen Oaks -- A visitor reported an unknown person(s) damaged Cullen Oaks equipment, flowers and shrubs at 3:40 a.m. An investigation is under way.

Disorderly conduct: 8:39 a.m. Dec. 4, Bayou Oaks -- A student reported an unknown student urinated on his front door and porch. Student Life and Residential Life referrals were issued to the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Occurred at 8:30 a.m.

Burglary: 1:45 p.m. Dec. 4, Cullen Oaks -- A visitor reported an unknown person(s) broke into his apartment and ate his food between 2 and 8 a.m.

Burglary: 3:20 p.m. Dec. 4, Parking Lot 1A residents' area -- A student reported an unknown person(s) burglarized his parked, secured vehicle between 10 p.m. Dec. 3 and 1 p.m. Dec. 4.

Theft: 6:58 p.m. Dec. 4, 5019 Calhoun Road -- A staff member reported a secured cabinet was forced open and a receiver for a plasma-screen television was stolen from it between 8 p.m. Dec. 3 and 6:50 p.m. Dec. 4.

Criminal mischief: 9:14 a.m. Dec. 5, Heyne Building second floor -- An officer reported finding five doors in an office suite that had been damaged by a prying instrument. Nothing seemed to have been stolen.

Burglary: 2:46 p.m. Dec. 5, Cullen Oaks visitor parking lot -- A student reported an unknown person(s) stole the in-dash compact disc player from his parked vehicle between 3:30 a.m. and 2:40 p.m.

Interfering with the duties of a public servant: 12:10 a.m. Dec. 6, Moody Towers south -- Two students were arrested for interfering with the duties of an officer while the officer was responding to a possession of marijuana call. The students were issued Student Life and Residential Life referrals and were transported to Harris County Jail.

Harassment: 11:53 a.m. Dec. 6, Philip Guthrie Hoffman Hall fourth floor -- A staff member reported an unknown male made four obscene telephone calls between 11 and 11:55 a.m. There is one suspect.

Theft: 2:50 p.m. Dec. 6, M.D. Anderson Memorial Library first floor -- An unknown person(s) stole a student's unattended textbook while the student was in the rest room. Occurred between 2:40 and 2:47 p.m.

Burglary: 6:51 p.m. Dec. 6, Parking Lot 20A -- Upon returning to his parked, secured vehicle in Lot 20A, a student found an unknown male in the driver's seat trying to break open the steering column. The student pulled the male out of the vehicle, and the male fled the scene on foot. A search of the area yielded no results. Occurred at 6:35 p.m.

Credit card abuse: 7:02 p.m. Dec. 6, University Center Satellite -- A student reported she used her bank check card at a sandwich shop in the Satellite on Dec. 2. She said she did not receive the card back from the cashier and was later informed by her bank that 11 unauthorized transactions had been made at various locations. An investigation is under way. Occurred between 11:30 a.m. Dec. 2 and some time Dec. 3.

Theft: 10 p.m. Dec. 6, Hofheinz Pavilion rest rooms -- A staff member reported an unknown person(s) stole 32 unattended, unsecured rolls of toilet paper between 9:45 p.m. Dec. 5 and 2:50 p.m. Dec. 6.

Theft: 10:26 p.m. Dec. 6, Science & Research 1 -- A faculty member reported an unknown person(s) stole a UH-owned computer monitor between 5 p.m. Dec. 3 and 10 a.m. Dec. 6.

Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle: 2:33 a.m. Dec. 7, 3800 block of Wheeler Avenue -- A visitor was arrested and transported to Harris County Jail for driving a stolen vehicle after being stopped for driving on a flat tire.

Theft: 7:26 a.m. Dec. 7, General Services Building -- A staff member reported an unknown person(s) stole unattended, secured UH-owned fertilizer between 4 p.m. Dec. 1 and 7 a.m. Dec. 6.

Theft: 12:24 p.m. Dec. 7, M.D. Anderson Memorial Library -- A staff member reported someone using a stolen Cougar 1Card checked out a library laptop computer, which was later recovered. Occurred at 10:58 a.m. Dec. 2.

Theft: 11:24 p.m. Dec. 7, Oberholtzer Hall second floor -- A staff member reported an unknown person(s) stole her keys from her desk drawer between 3 and 5:30 p.m.

Assault: 1:38 a.m. Wednesday, Cambridge Oaks -- Two students were involved in a minor physical altercation, but neither showed signs of physical injury. Both were issued University referrals and Class C citations for assault, then released. Occurred between 1:25 and 1:35 a.m.

Criminal mischief and trespass: 3:22 p.m. Wednesday, Parking Lot 16E -- Students saw a visitor bend and break a windshield wiper blade on a student's truck. When the students approached the visitor, the visitor produced a bladed weapon but did not threaten the witnesses. The visitor left the scene and was arrested. Class C citations for criminal mischief and trespass were issued and the visitor was released.

Theft: 4 p.m. Wednesday, University Center Satellite -- A student reported an unknown person(s) stole her unattended handbag from a chair at the Satellite between 1 and 3 p.m.

Theft: 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, University Hilton courtyard -- A student reported an unknown person(s) stole her purse and its contents from a bench between 3 and 3:03 p.m.

Criminal mischief: 7:29 p.m. Wednesday, Parking Lot 1A -- A student reported an unknown person(s) tried to pry open the passenger door of his parked, secured vehicle, damaging the paint and weather stripping on the door. Occurred between 7 and 9:30 p.m. Dec. 2.

Theft: 7:16 p.m. Thursday, Social Work Building bicycle rack -- A student reported an unknown person(s) stole his unattended, secured bicycle from the rack between the Social Work Building and Agnes Arnold Hall between 4:45 and 7:10 p.m.

Possession of marijuana: 12:28 a.m. Friday, Bayou Oaks -- A student reported a suspect was smoking marijuana. A small, unusable amount was found and no charges were filed. The student was issued Student Life and Residential Life referrals.
