Lady Cougars lose second to 49ers

Cougar Sports Services

The Lady Cougars pinned their hopes on a three-pointer from senior guard Daphne Andre to give them the win Monday night, but time ran out, and the shot missed the mark.

Marking their second consecutive loss of the season, the Lady Cougars fell 54-52 to the Long Beach State 49ers after the 49ers broke a tie with seven seconds on the clock. It was the first time Long Beach State had beaten a ranked team since 1992.

The Lady Cougars trailed at halftime, 35-27, but quickly pulled ahead in the second half.

Senior point guard Joann Overstreet led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 15 points. Senior forward Sancho Lyttle marked her eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

It was a hard loss to take after Wake Forest ended the Lady Cougars' nine-game winning streak Friday at the Ala Moana Paradise Classic.
