Two Lady Cougars tennis team members are in the Top 100 rankings of the International Tennis Association.

Freshman Luciane Kelbert, from Port Alegre, Brazil, is ranked at No. 26 after starting the year with seven straight wins, including a win over No. 40 Zofia Csapo of the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Houston's Susanne Andersson, ranked the No. 45 singles player in the ITA preseason poll, now stands at No. 87.

Andersson, who sat out the fall with a wrist injury, is 6-4 this spring, including a win over No. 39 Maria Favlidou of Arkansas.

The Lady Cougars are 4-6 as a team on the season.

The McNeese State Cowboys avenged a season-opening home loss to the Houston Cougars by pounding out 18 hits to defeat the Cougars 14-7 Wednesday night at Cougar Field.

A sixth-inning grand slam by Mike Trahan, the Cowboys' junior second baseman, put the score out of Houston's reach.

The loss breaks Houston's four-game win streak and drops the Cougars to 11-5 on the season.

The Cougars open a three-game weekend home stand against nationally ranked Florida Central at 7 p.m. Friday at Cougar Field.
