LAFAYETTE, La. -- The Houston Cougars (15-10, 1-3 in the Southwest Conference) rallied back from an early 2-0 deficit behind the play of outfielder Karl Ryden to earn a 5-3 victory over the Southwestern Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Tuesday.

Ryden plated the Cougars' first run on an RBI single after USL had scored in each of the first two innings, and Ryden had the first of three Houston fifth-inning doubles to take the lead for good.

But Ryden's biggest play of the game came in the second inning, with his diving catch of Chris Webb's drive in the gap in left center with the bases loaded to end the inning.

The Cajuns got an RBI double from Webb in the first inning after John McClure's leadoff single, and added another run in the second when Bryan Robinson hit a leadoff single and scored on Kevin Cantrelle's ground ball, just before Ryden's big catch.

Cougar pitcher Bo Hernandez earned the win for Houston.

Hernandez (2-0 on the season) pitched for five innings, striking out six, while giving up five hits, two walks and one earned run.

Southwestern Louisiana pitcher Cade Methvin (0-1) got the loss for the Cajuns, pitching 4 1/3 innings and giving up seven hits and four earned runs.

Houston reliever Mark Manbeck gave up no runs in the ninth to earn his second save.
