The Houston Cougars women's tennis team suffered back-to-back Southwest Conference setbacks over the weekend at Baylor, 5-4 and at Texas, 9-0

The Cougars split singles play with three wins but won only one doubles match Friday in Waco, and the Bears were given two points by default.

Junior Julie Stone retired in her singles match and defaulted in her doubles match due to a sprained ankle.

Winning for Houston were No. 62 ranked Lucianne Kelbert, Susanne Andersson and Kirsten Paris. Andersson and Paris also won their doubles match.

The No. 8 Lady Longhorns were too much for the Cougars in Austin.

With two ranked singles players and the No. 3 ranked doubles team, they swept Houston in both singles and doubles play.

The Cougars fell to 6-10 on the season and 1-4 in the SWC.

The Cougars will try to bounce back today when they face Nicholls State at 1:30 p.m. at the Hoff Courts.
