The University of Houston tennis team used two doubles wins to clinch Friday's match over the Texas Christian Lady Frogs, 6-3, which was moved indoors due to rain at the Chancellors Racquet Club.
Having won four of the six matches, the Lady Cougars needed only one point in the doubles to clinch the match. Houston clinched the victory with a doubles win by Luciane Kelbert and Becki Garcia, 7-6 (5), 6-2, to improve to 9-10 on the season and 2-4 in the Southwest conference.
Susanne Andersson, ranked No. 103 collegiately, won her match to end a personal two-match losing streak and teamed with Julie Stone to win their doubles match in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Kelbert, ranked No. 92 collegiately, Stone and Garcia won for the Lady Cougars as well. The Lady Frogs, now 13-7 (1-3 in the SWC) earned points in singles from Natalie Balafoutis and Rachael Niwa.
The Lady Cougars close out the regular season Tuesday with a dual match against the Rice Owls at the UH Varsity Tennis Complex courts at 1:30 p.m.
