Lady Cougars set for `final serve' in Fort Worth

The Houston Lady Cougars travel to Fort Worth today for the Southwest Conference Tennis Championships.

Riding in on a four-match winning streak, the No. 5-seeded Houston will face the Rice Owls, ranked No. 46 in the nation.

The Lady Cougars finished the regular season at 10-10 and 3-4 in the SWC, their best record since the 1990-91 season. Their last game of the season was against the Owls on April 9, a 5-4 UH victory.

The winner of Friday's match will likely face top-seeded Texas, ranked No. 8 in the nation.

The Cougars are led by freshman sensation Luciane Kelbert, who finished the season with a 16-4 record, 5-2 against the SWC.

Track team takes on the SWC in Quadrangular

The UH track team starts a two-day quadrangular meet in Austin today with Rice, Texas A&M and Texas.

The meet will conclude Saturday.

Freshman shot putter John Davis will also participate in the Mt. SAC Relays this weekend.
