Stop the hate
To the editor:
I'm tired of seeing Christianity trashed in this paper by those who know nothing about it.
You think we are hate mongers, but to do so would be sinning against God. Christ commanded us to love the sinner but hate the sin. You think we are trying to take away your freedom, but we are only trying to protect you and this country, for love protects (1 Corinthians 13). You have no idea what you're getting yourself and this country into by your disrespect of God! Galations 5:2 says Christians should be full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. God hates sin, and the wage of sin is death.
You think we are a bunch of fanatics, but we are only obedient to Christ. There is joy in the Lord's presence, and you have no idea what that indescribable peace and joy is like. Only Jesus rose from the dead and willingly shed His blood for us so we could be reconciled to God. We are obedient to Him because we love Him and He loves us. Every branch of science validates the Bible. But of course those who have validated the truth of Jesus Christ and the Bible are ignored because what they have to say is not politically correct. Man twists, perverts and denies the truth and exalts himself as God. This, of course, would be PC legal. Historical proof proves the Bible as well as fulfilled prophecy. The Bible has 3,500 prophecies which have been fulfilled 100 percent according to the order in which they take place. Thirty-eight Bible prophecies are occurring right now! And if you knew what is in store for us, you wouldn't be able to sleep at night. These are some of the things that would occur in the last days-rebirth of Israel (Jesus said that the generation that saw that would see His return. Israel was reborn in 1948): belief in evolution, nuclear weaponry, chemical warfare, plagues, people believing/customizing what they want to hear, people deceived by signs and wonders of false prophets, the information age, biotechnology, increased violence, increase in earthquakes and strange weather, UFOs (Revelation 16:13, 14 -- fallen angels), global economy, loss of morality, increased occult interest (demonic, but weak compared to a Christian's prayer and spiritual warfare authority), and this is only the beginning!
You may think we're fools, but when the Church is raptured and you're left behind in the Great Tribulation, remember what you said about us fools!
To the editor:
I am a 1975 graduate of the University of Houston and I am very active in the alumni affairs of our university.
I supported the 1996 Frontier Fiesta, both financially and with the donation of my time. It was a great affair and it was great to see so many students and alumni in attendance.
The one downer was the lack of support from The Daily Cougar. I read both the Monday and Tuesday editions of The Daily Cougar and no where did I see any coverage except for Jesse Handy's article in the Tuesday paper.
I thought it was the purpose of The Daily Cougar to report newsworthy events that concern the University of Houston. A lot of your fellow students put a lot of time and effort into this event. The Daily Cougar could have given these fine students some "timely" coverage for their efforts. Whether The Daily Cougar agrees editorially with this event or not, coverage should have occurred!
Let's all work to improve the image of our university. It is a great institution and has a great story to tell. Sure it has some problems, but what doesn't in today's world? So, let's thank Lisa and all her staff for the great job they did on the 1996 Frontier Fiesta.
