UH Speech and Debate takes 2nd place honors

The UH Speech and Debate Team took second place overall sweepstakes honors at the University of Texas-El Paso/El Paso Community College Swing Tournament, Jan. 26-29.

The team captured third place sweepstakes at the UT-El Paso portion of the competition, and second place sweepstakes at the EPCC portion.

UH team captain Chris Aspdal led the team, placing first in poetry, dramatic interpretation, prose and oral interpretation.

Senior team member Andrea Rachiele, who took five events to the finals, placed first in extemporaneous speaking, third in impromptu speaking, third in poetry and fifth in prose.

Rachiele and Aspdal teamed up to take first-place overall honors in both parliamentary and parliamentary debate.

The UH team's next competition will be Feb. 9-11 in Norman, Okla.
