The No. 6 Cougars will once again display their talents as they defend their Conference USA crown this weekend at Columbia Lakes Resort and Country Club in Columbia, Texas.

The tourney will begin Saturday, with the championship round played on Tuesday.

The best four scores of the five players are used in determining the winner in collegiate tournament play.

The University of Houston golf program has had a long history of producing outstanding golfers like current PGA tour veterans Fred Couples, Steve Elkington, and Nick Faldo, and this year is no different.

The squad's consistent play has earned it a current national ranking of sixth and attention as one of the premier golf teams in the country.

The Cougars have been able to finish in the top five in eight of their nine tournaments this year.

The team also finished in first place in the Morris Williams Classic on March 24.

The Cougars, who blew away the competition by 15 strokes in last season's championship, come into this weekend's contest as a heavy favorite.

Houston will be sending Chris Morris, Victor Schwamkrug, Andy Sanders, Jeff Burns and B. J. Staten to represent them in its 10th tournament of the year.

Playing as a team throughout tournament action has been the underlying reason for the Cougars' success.
