Birthdays: Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner (1926); country singer Hal Ketchum (1953); actor Dennis Quaid (1954).

Seminar: The Department of Chemical Engineering is offering a seminar "Block Copolymers -- Designer Soft Materials" at 10:30 a.m. in Room W122-D3, Cullen College of Engineering.

Bake sale: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will sell sweet treats at 11 a.m. in Agnes Arnold Hall.

Propose a toast: Toastmasters International, an organization dedicated to developing a student's public speaking skills, will meet at 12:30 p.m. in the Baltic Room, UC Underground.

Anime No Kai: Anime No Kai, a Japanese animation club, is showing a variety of Japanese animation titles from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Satellite.

Juma'a prayer: The Muslim Students Association will meet at 1:30 p.m. in Room 201, A.D. Bruce Religion Center.

Islamic studies classes: The Muslim Students Association will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. in Room 202, A.D. Bruce Religion Center.

Halaqat: The Muslim Students Association will meet for the Islamic Study Circle at 6 p.m. in the Lone Star Room, University Center.

Helping others: The African American Studies Program is hosting its 1st Annual Scholars banquet from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Athletic/Alumni Building. Proceeds from the event will benefit the AAS Academic Excellence Scholarship and the AAS Academic Support Group.

Scatterpong: The Baptist Student Ministry will meet at 7 p.m. for a scatterpong tournament at the Baptist Student Center. A fee of $3 is required to play and includes a chance to win a prize.

Weekend

Let's kick it: The Shotokan Karate Club will meet Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in the World Affairs Lounge, UC Underground.

Walking for a cause: Walkers are needed for the alumni team in the March of Dimes Walk America at 9 a.m. at UH. All alumni, friends and family are welcome to join. People interested in joining the team should call Lisa at (713) 541-2468 (day) or (713) 446-9020 (night).

Going once, going twice: Alpha Psi Omega is holding a celebrity auction at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Wortham Theatre lobby.
