Board to meet, vote on campus construction

Cougar News Services

The UH System Board of Regents will meet Wednesday to decide on a number of projects that could change the face of the UH campus.

Among items awaiting the board's vote are approving plans for the renovation of the Fine Arts Building and beginning construction on a new track stadium.

The track and field complex, which will be constructed behind the Athletic/Alumni Center pending board approval, will not cost more than $3.5 million and will meet Olympic, NCAA and conference standards. The stadium will also be used for a soccer field. If approved, construction will begin Dec. 1.

The Fine Arts Building will be renovated at a cost of $5.8 million in order to fully accomodate art department facilities and bring the building to code. If the board approves the project, construction would be completed by Dec. 31, 1999.

The Regents will meet in executive session at 8 a.m. in the Melcher Board Room at the AAC. The public portion of the meeting will begin no later than 9:30 a.m. Anyone is welcome to attend.
