William Stringfellow tipped in Kenny Younger's missed jumper at the buzzer to lift the UH men's basketball team over the Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis Jaguars 72-71 in front of 4,127 fans in Hofheinz Pavilion Saturday night.

This was supposed to be the big "thank you" column, but I couldn't think of anybody who deserved to be thanked. I'm tapped out and I've sunk to letting you fill 20 inches. Consider this a smorgasbord of the fall semester's reader responses.
In Entertainment Today . . .
With sales of his latest CD, Double Live, topping 1,085,000 units, Garth Brooks broke the first-week sales record previously set by Pearl Jam's Vs., which sold 950,000 copies.
In Sports Today . . .
The Lady Cougar basketball team dropped two games last week as it fell to .500 (3-3 overall , 0-1 in Conference USA), losing the first game to conference foe South Florida Wednesday and then to LSU Saturday.
