In News Today . . .

Contrary to the expectations of students, the University Bookstore had short lines, good customer service and a large book supply the first week of school.

In Opinion Today . . .

As time passes from one anticlimatic moment to another, we turn up every rock in search of a milestone, a benchmark, some kind of anvil upon which to shape and mold our dreary passage through the meandering refuse-filled bayou of modern life.

In Entertainment Today . . .

Playing By Heart, the new romantic comedy from director Willard Carroll, plays with the images and mixtures of love, opinions and desire in such a way that makes the film admirable and fun to watch, but not exactly a grade-A, through-the-roof film that you should rush to the ticket line to see.

In Sports Today . . .

The Lady Cougars came out swinging on Thursday night against Conference USA rival Marquette, but the Lady Eagles proved to be too much. Houston went down 90-64. Marquette beat Houston in every statistical category, including shooting, shooting percentage, rebounding, blocked shots and turnovers. The loss left UH, 5-12 (1-6) in the cellar of the National Division of C-USA.
