Let us hear from you

A word from the editor

You may have noticed the advertisements we've been running in the Cougar asking for staff members. They've been effective -- we've had a number of students come by and fill out applications, and for the 12 of you who haven't, I know you'll find the time soon.

Seriously, we want to stress the fact that the Cougar is your newspaper. It may not always contain things you agree with, particularly on the Opinion page, but Letters to the Editor and guest columns are always available to voice your opinions on what you see here.

However, I want to tell you about a new way we are making available to tell us what's on your mind: the Friday Forum. Each Friday, beginning today, we'll give you a topic to think about during the coming week. It may be anything from a campus subject to an issue of international importance -- but our goal is to hear your views on the topic.

Each Friday, look in this space (which, by next week, will be transformed into a snazzy new Forum box), and you'll find a new issue or question to consider. Let us know what you think about that topic by 4 p.m. the following Thursday, and Friday we'll publish selected comments plus a new topic for your consideration.

We'll also welcome suggestions for the next week's Forum topic. Let us know what you'd like to talk about. After all, this is your page.
