propels Cougars to No. 3
Cougar Sports Services
The UH baseball team was rewarded for its weekend sweep of Louisiana State on Monday afternoon, as the Cougars received a No. 3 national ranking from Baseball America magazine.
This is the highest ranking UH has received since 1983, when the Cougars ran off 21-straight wins to open the year and reached the No. 2 spot in the nation at midseason.
UH head coach Rayner Noble and Cy Young award winner Doug Drabek were the leaders of that UH pitching staff, which finished with a 43-15 overall record.
In the Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll, the second of the three major national polls, UH jumped five spots to a No. 5 ranking while LSU fell from No. 3 to No. 15.
The highest ranking a UH team has ever finished with
in a season was back in 1967, when UH fell to Arizona State in the NCAA
Championship Game to finish at No. 2.
