Chicken pox reported at UH

Cougar News Staff

Students, faculty and staff who haven't had chicken pox are advised to be vaccinated against the disease in the wake of a small outbreak on campus.

Four students have been diagnosed with chicken pox, which is contagious in its early stages. Initial symptoms include fever, headache and fatigue, which lead to a rash.

Vaccinations are available for $3 at the Sunnyside Health Center (9314 Cullen, (713) 732-5000) and the Riverside Health Center (3315 Delano, (713) 281-9670); and for $56 at the UH Health Center -- the higher price is due to the fact that the center must special-order the vaccine.

For more information, call the Health Center at (713) 743-5151.
