UH softball looking for talent

By Josh Gajewski
Daily Cougar Staff

Walk-on tryouts for the UH softball team, which is set to begin play in 2001, will be held later this month.

Anyone interested in trying out must attend a mandatory meeting held by Kyla Holas next Thursday, April 13 at 4 p.m. It will be held at the UH Athletics/Alumni building in the lunch room on the top floor.

Holas was named UH head coach on Oct. 29, 1999 after having worked with pitchers and catchers as an assistant at the University of Florida for three seasons.

Also at UF, Holas served as the camp director, coordinated travel and was instrumental in aiding four players who earned five Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll awards.

As a player at Southwestern Louisiana, Holas set seven school records in pitching and compiled a .301 batting average, and was a three-time NCAA All-American.

The Cougars will begin play next season in a brand new facility that will be built on the corner of Elgin and Scott.
