|SA unveils new,
improved Web site
By Jim Parsons
The Students' Association hopes students will be able to point and click their way around their student government with a revamped SA Web site, which made its debut this semester.
The new site was designed by outgoing SA Director of Finance Leigh Street and College of Business Administration Sen. Richard Russell this summer.
Street said her main goals in creating the new site were making it more comprehensive and navigable in hopes that it would be able to answer students' questions about their elected government.
"I started from the (SA) organizational chart and decided from there how to structure the page," Street said.
The site's home page features a large picture of a cougar on a red background, with navigation buttons leading to information about the divisions of SA, its projects and members.
"I wanted to offer more to the students," Street said. The reworked site provides separate pages for the SA executive and legislative branches, with space for photographs and short biographies of all elected officials. Visitors to the site can also read the SA Constitution and legislation being considered by the student Senate.
Street said she looked at a number of other schools' student government Web sites when designing UH's, and she believes the SA's compares favorably. "I think our site is much more comprehensive than any other school's I saw," she said.
Street added she hopes the site will eventually have constantly updated legislation and minutes from Senate meetings, plus comprehensive election information.
The SA Web site can be accessed at www.uh.edu/sa.
