Muoneke signs with UH

UH women's basketball coach Joe Curl announced last week the Cougars have signed former Connors State star Valerie Muoneke a Houston native to a National Letter of Intent.

Muoneke, the younger sister of Texas Longhorn star Gabe Muoneke, played one season at Connors State College in Warner, Okla., where she averaged 13.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

The 6-2 post played in 29 of 30 games for Connors State and was named First Team, All Bi-State Conference as well as All-Region II in the National Junior College Athletic Association Ranks.

"Valerie gives us a presence inside," commented Curl, who will enter his third season in the fall. "She's a big kid with great hands and good mobility. Her best basketball is still ahead of her, and we feel fortunate to be bringing in a player of her stature."

A native of Houston, Muoneke spent one season at Blinn College before transferring to Connors State for her sophomore season. At Blinn, Muoneke averaged 9.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. At Cy Falls High School Muoneke was an all-district and all-state performer, averaging a little more than 15 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and three assists per game.
