SGA news: Summer Senate

By Jim Parsons
Daily Cougar Staff

The Student Government Association Summer Senate will convene for the first time Friday in a special meeting called by President James Robertson Jr.

Although Robertson will set the agenda at the meeting, he did not specify Tuesday afternoon what topics it would cover.

One issue the meeting may address is Robertson's dismissals of Leigh Street, the SGA's director of finance, and Kim Webb, its director of public relations, last week. Although Robertson declined to say why the two were removed from their positions, sources say the change has angered some senators.

Robertson said he has received some applications for the vacant positions, but indicated he will wait until he and the Senate feel the applicant pool is broad enough to produce strong, qualified candidates.

Candidates for both positions are nominated by the SGA president and require approval of two-thirds of the Senate.

The Summer Senate will meet at 7 p.m. Friday in the Mediterranean Room, University Center Underground.
