Great American Bash set for Sunday; Will Hogan retire?

The Wrestling Report

Ed De La Garza

World Championship Wrestling is going to change the world. Or so it says.

Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo have been hyping a "big surprise," saying a deal has been struck that will change the face of sports entertainment forever. In an "interview," Bischoff stated that there was nothing anyone -- not even Vince McMahon -- could do about it.

The speculation ends Sunday at the Great American Bash, when the big surprise will finally be revealed. WCW has kind of backed itself into a corner. The news has to be big, and it has to be more than just an angle or a Goldberg heel turn.

The following are merely rumors, so take them for what they're worth. WCW may have struck a deal with Extreme Championship Wrestling -- it may even be a merger. Bischoff made sure to say McMahon couldn't do anything about it because WCW has the best lawyers in the world. Triple H may be jumping ship. Shane McMahon may be jumping ship. Shawn Michaels may show up. These are among the most interesting, yet highly unlikely guesses.

'I am a real American ... '

WCW presents its annual June extravaganza, The Great American Bash, this Sunday (7 p.m., pay-per-view). Aside from the surprise, the card actually has matches. Predictions are meant for entertainment purposes only. They should not be used to place illegal bets. I mean it. Seriously. No, really. Don't.

WCW World Title -- Jeff Jarrett (champion) vs. Kevin Nash

Nash would be the more popular (and marketable) champion, but someone has to hold the title longer than two weeks. That's not likely to happen. Prediction: Nash

Ric Flair vs. David Flair

This'll be David Flair's first extended match against his old man. If the Nature Boy loses, he must retire from wrestling. While he should retire, don't look for him to hang up the boots yet, although he may take some time off for some much needed surgery. Prediction: David Flair

Hulk Hogan vs. Billy Kidman

If Hogan wins, he gets a World Title shot at Bash at the Beach. If Kidman wins, Hogan must retire. Everyone start the Kidman chants early. Positive thoughts. Positive thoughts. Prediction: Ugh ... Hogan

Human Torch Match -- Sting vs. Vampiro

The first person to set his opponent on fire wins the match. This feud isn't ending anytime soon. Prediction: Vampiro

Ambulance Match -- Mike Awesome vs. Diamond Dallas Page

The first person to put his opponent in an ambulance wins. Awesome is one of the most talented wrestlers in the business today. You'd hope DDP would put him over, but .... Prediction: Page

Tables Match -- Shane Douglas vs. The Wall

Someone please tell me what makes The Wall so unstoppable. Is it his natural charm? His excellent mic skills? His superior in-ring talent? Oh wait. He has none of these. So why is he still getting a push? Prediction: Douglas

Asylum Match (for the WCW United States Title) -- Scott Steiner (champion) vs. Tank Abbott

The asylum is a circular cage placed inside the ring. Steiner and Abbott will then "shoot" fight. Rumor has it that Steiner will attempt to make Abbott look like a fool by actually "wrestling." Prediction: Steiner

Boot Camp Match -- G.I. Bro vs. Shawn Stasiak

Booker's new/old gimmick sucks. That's all I have to say. Prediction: G.I. Bro
