January 27 in history: A flash fire during an evening practice launch claims the lives of Apollo 1 astronauts Virgil "Gus" Grissom, Edward White, and Roger Chaffee. The fire shut down the Saturn program and caused a complete redesign of the booster section (1967); Dumb and Dumber, starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, opens in movie theaters (1995).
