Ambushing abortion advocates

Kristin Buchanan

The National Organization of Women has declared a state of emergency. On April 22, NOW President Patricia Ireland and her activist troops will fight the good fight of feminism against anti-abortion oppressors at the Emergency Action for Women's Lives in Washington, D.C.

We have a good cause for emergency: President George W. Bush is threatening to take away one of women's most basic human rights: the rights to self-determination and reproductive freedom.

Under his rule, the Supreme Court continues to be infested with anti-abortion-rights nominees. Our new attorney general, John Ashcroft, staunchly opposes abortion in almost all cases, excepting when woman's life is in danger.

Ireland warned in her state of emergency address that the reproductive rights of all women are under an impending threat by Bush and his horde of totalitarian henchmen.

On his second day in office, Bush celebrated the 28th anniversary of Roe v. Wade
by reinstating the ban on the United States' international funding for family planning groups that offer abortion as a reproductive option.

The Roe v. Wade
decision is on thin ice. Even Norma McCorvey, the case's defendant who made it all possible, is lobbying for the decision to be overturned.

The woman who was the critical fifth vote on many abortion cases, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, is on the verge of retirement. Many other justices who favor abortion are planning to retire soon as well.

Women everywhere are under attack. Our God-given right to abortion is in imminent danger.

The right of women to safely exterminate the unwanted parasites that dwell within them will be taken away if nothing is done to stop Bush.

NOW's emergency campaign features the words "Keep Abortion Legal" next to a logo of a clothes hanger in a red circle with a line through it. The hanger symbolizes the method of abortion once used before it was made legal, and what NOW says many women will resort to if abortion becomes illegal again.

Reality check.

Obviously, the alternative of granting life to the fetus is out of the question for those who don't want to be inconvenienced by a pregnancy.

NOW specifically designed this logo to incite fear in the minds of those who feel entitled to "safe abortions." Is it me, or is the term "safe abortions" an oxymoron?

Of course we need to consider the safety of the woman. The safety of the child within her, however, doesn't matter, since it doesn't have the ability to protest the act while its newly formed organs are being pierced through with a cold metal hook.

Our ears have become deaf to the silent screams of souls that will never see the light of day.

Liberals claim to believe in tolerance and compassion. Apparently, tolerating the lives of unborn children doesn't count. Most liberals are incapable of extending compassion toward those who are completely dependent on the nurturing and love of a mother.

So they instead give the mother a little pill that flushes the baby's nourishment from the mother's body and starves the fetus to death. A few days later, another pill finishes the job by flushing out the remains of the unwanted child.

This is what liberals call compassion. The woman who would have been a mother is left bleeding and too weak to move for a few days. The life that was once inside her is no more and she can just wipe her hands of the whole incident.

We can all go on with our lives, knowing we gave the child the "most humane exit possible."

Somewhere in the collectively seared conscience of America is the actual truth.

In the words of my favorite band, P.O.D., "Abortion is murder. There's nothing you can say or do to justify the fact that there's a living, breathing thing inside of you."
