Cougar baseball on a tear

Cougar Baseball has a reputation for stepping up to bat against the toughest opponents. UH has once again proven it will not back down from the plate as it continues to hold an undefeated record in Conference USA play.

With UH leading in the Silver Glove series against Rice 2-1, Wednesday's cancellation might not need to be rescheduled, as Game 5 of the series has already been set for April 18 at Cougar Field.

The next series of games will be on the road against C-USA rival Cincinnati, starting on Friday. The Bearcats have a 2-4 conference record.

The UH women split a double header with Louisville on Saturday, winning the first game 5-4. Unfortunately, the Cougars came up short the second game and lost to the Cardinals 4-0.

UH Softball was set to swap outs with No. 23 Southwest Texas State, but had to cancel due to rain.

In the last game of the series, Louisville rallied to overcome a UH lead and ended the Sunday game 7-6, handing the Cougars a disappointing loss at home.

The incessant Houston rain forced the softball team to cancel its Wednesday game against Southwest Texas. A makeup game has not been scheduled yet.

The Lady Cougars head to Southern Miss on Saturday for a three-game conference series. The Lady Golden Eagles (22-12) will most likely have C-USA Pitcher of the Week Felicia Gonzales on the mound.

UH will have to keep an eye on the ball from Gonzales, who pitched her third no-hitter for the season against conference competitor Alabama-Birmingham last weekend.

UH tennis hits the road for two matches against Alabama and C-USA rival UAB.

Track and field

The men's and women's teams took second in the Texas Southern relays at the Tom Tellez Track over the weekend, kicking off the outdoor season with a bang.

UH will hold the Tom Tellez Invitational on Saturday.

The men are still warming up their drivers and polishing their putters for the U.S. Intercollegiate on April 6 to 8, in Los Cabos, Mexico.

The men were in full gear Wednesday as spring season started, in concurrence with the rainy season. The Cougars pounded the AstroTurf in the Athletics/Alumni Center indoor facility for the first practice of 2001.

The team scrimmages at 11 a.m. Saturdays at Robertson Stadium.
