A worthy gift: Political science professor Richard Murray, second from left, receives a $50,000 check from Shell Oil Co. Foundation director Betty Lynn McCann, center, at the University Hilton on Thursday. The Shell Foundation is giving $100,000 for the Lanier public policy conferences held each December at UH. Former mayor Bob Lanier, second from right, and his wife Elyse, right, organized the conferences; Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Dean Andrew Achenbaum, left, was also on hand for the donation.

One week before the Kentucky Derby engulfs the city of Louisville the Cougar baseball team will try to leave its own mark on the city.
