Games to end in pyrotechnic gala

Australian songstress Kylie Minogue will team with Midnight Oil during the closing ceremonies of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday.

Also planned for the celebration is a fireworks display organizers say is greater than that used for the millennium celebration.

A "river of lightning" display -- similar to the one on the Thames during London's millennium party -- will extend along Sydney Harbour. The 8.75-mile show will last 20 minutes.

This will be followed by a "fireworks waterfall," using the colors of the Olympic rings, and a performance from Aussie pop duo Savage Garden in downtown Sydney.

The ceremonies in the Olympic Stadium will also feature performances from Minogue, Midnight Oil and Nikki Webster, the star of the Opening Ceremony show. But tickets haven't been in high demand: 9,000 of them are still available at $1,384 Australian each ($759.82 U.S.).

To end the ceremony, two F-111 jets will fly over the stadium when the Olympic Cauldron is extinguished and dump and burn fuel, giving the illusion that the flame is being carried away.
