UH head football coach Dana Dimel has something
to celebrate this afternoon, and it should please the alumni who have grown
impatient with the downward spiral of Cougar football.
The national Letter of Intent signing day
has arrived, and Dimel will reap a bumper crop of recruits if every signature
falls into place.
Head football coach Dana
Dimel will receive some fresh, Texan blood during the national Letter of
Intent Signing Day.
With no scholarship quarterbacks on the
team, this yearis possible recruits include quarterbacks Barrick Nealy
of Dallas, Blade Bassler of Rockdale and Nick Eddy from Sacremento, Calif.
Eight of Dimelis possible recruits are
rated among the top 100 football players in Texas by Lone State Recruiting.
The Houston Chronicle places five of the players in their Texas top 100
Cougar fans should be satisfied with Dimelis
efforts to recruit from the Houston area and the state after years of watching
local and state football stars sign with other schools. All of Dimelis
recruits hail from Texas.
Bassler and Nealy are both ranked in the
Lone State Recruiting top 100 players in the state.
While Dimel said he would prefer to recruit
his players right out of high school, UH could end up with three or four
prime junior college transfers.
Former top 100 Texas football players Damien
West and Gerald Hanson are also poised to sign with the Cougars. The junior
college transfers bring the list of potential top 100 players who could
sign with UH to an even dozen.
