Cougar football wasn't the only team to
secure new recruits for next season.
UH soccer signed two new fielders Thursday,
both high school seniors from Texas.
Leslie Guevara hails from Sam Houston High
School. The 5-6 forward was named to the all-district team each of her
four years as a varsity letter-winner. She earned District MVP in 1999
and was ranked second among All-Greater Houston scorers. Guevara holds
the Tigers' school record with 29 goals and four assists in seven games.
"(Guevara) has the amazing ability to beat
players one-on-one," head soccer coach Bill Solberg said. "She is a natural
goal scorer and a very hard worker who will bring excitement to an already
awesome forward line."
Along with her athletic accolades, Guevara
holds a 4.0 GPA.
Tamara Hawkins comes to Houston from Plano.
A 5-2 center midfielder, she was named to the 2000 All-District team. Hawkins
played with the Plano Senior High School Wildcats for four years.
"(Hawkins) has unbelievable vision on the
field and she will definitely bring high intensity and a new level of play
to our team," Solberg said.
Hawkins leads the Plano team in scoring
and is in the top three in assists for the Wildcats. She is also a leader
in the classroom, maintaining a 3.8 GPA.
The two will see competition as UH freshmen
in Fall 2001.
