No decision yet on Robertson complaint

A decision has yet to be made by the Student Government Association Election Commission regarding the complaint filed by UH United campaign manager Jenn Blackwood against SGA President James Robertson Jr.

"The election commission has not finished discussing the complaint and will issue another statement when the issue is fully considered," said Josh Jackson, assistant to the election commissioner.

SGA Election Commissioner John Martinez was out of town Friday and could not be reached for comment.

The complaint, filed by Blackwood on behalf of SGA presidential candidate Bill Kelly, alleges that an event held by Robertson at the University Center on Monday violated several sections of the group's Election Code. Robertson filed for candidacy in the SGA elections on Friday.

The complaint alleges that the literature handed out had "express and implied statements about the election" which the Election Commission had not approved prior to the event. It also states that the literature was produced in the SGA offices, which also violated the code since the facility is not open to all candidates.

"There's no action as of yet," Kelly said. "This will allow us to focus on the issues, not on the fighting amongst us."

The Election Code states that a decision has to be made by the Election Commission within 24 hours after it receives the complaint from the administrative secretary of the SGA's Executive Office.

"We only received the complaint from the secretary (Friday) morning," Jackson said.

Jackson said he expects a decision will be made by the Election Commission today.
