First win comes against former Cougar coach

Inside the Lines

Laura Repp

Inside the Lines is a look from within the world of college athletics, written by student athletes. Players from different programs contribute to The
Daily Cougar sports section, giving their perspective on game preparations, weekly routines and life as student athletes. This week, soccer player
Laura Repp offers her impression of the season-opening games against Army and Rice.

Our hard work is finally beginning to get results. Tuesday we beat the crosstown rival Rice Owls, in their house, 2-1.

Nothing feels better than getting that first win under our belts -- and having that win come against our former head coach, Chris Huston.

Both of our goals came in the second half. Sophomore forward Nicole Aubuchon scored first, off an assist from junior forward Lindsay Beiriger. The
second one came when senior defender Laura Repp (yep, that's me) scored off an assist from Beiriger.

Cougar goalie Robin Cate earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors for shutting out the Army Black Knights.

Rice managed to score one goal on us in the second, but thanks to some tough defensive play, that's as close as it got.

I could see a difference just two days removed from the season opener against Army. We were much more composed and were able to create
goal-scoring opportunities against Rice. We'd worked out the kinks since our last game.

Sunday we faced Army in our house. We were a little shaky, but all the tools that helped us against Rice were present against the Black Knights.
We took them to two overtimes, but still ended the game in an 0-0 tie. That's because of defense.

That defensive effort helped land senior goalkeeper Robin Cate the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week award.

Your Lady Cougars go on the road this weekend to play Southern Methodist at 7 p.m. Friday and North Texas at 1 p.m. Sunday. We come back
home to play Southeastern Louisiana at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
