Shotokan, shotocanit: Jaime Gonzalez, an UH alumnus
from the class of 1996, kicks in the foreground as the UH Shotokan Karate
Club practices at Lynn Eusan Park on Wednesday night. The club/class has
been on campus since i78.
The Cullen Family Plaza was alive
with festivities Wednesday in celebration of UH's 75th anniversary. The
freshly filled Cullen Fountain flickered with reflections of the brightly
shining sun as students, faculty and staff united in dancing to the Rolling
Stones' "Harlem Shuffle."
I never understood the white flight
of my parents and grandparents or the current trend to participate in the
gentrification of the inner city, pushing the poor and usually minority
residents outside the Interstate 610 loop, as if predominately white yuppies
have introduced a new attitude of pioneerism.
Note: The following is a list
of films opening this weekend. Along with a brief synopsis, the list is
intended to provide moviegoers with general
information about the films. These are
not movie reviews.
The UH softball team began well
enough in its Wednesday doubleheader to earn some bragging rights as far
as Texas softball is concerned, but the Cougars failed to sweep Texas rival
Texas-San Antonio.
