UH soccer lands best recruiting class ever

Bill Solberg should be proud. The Houston women's soccer head coach just hauled in the best recruiting class in the school's short history, a group of eight
young women.

Sophomore midfielder Nikki Hawkins and UH will welcome ten incoming soccer recruits for the coming season.

The class, seven freshmen and Clemson transfer Alison Sinclair, will help ease the loss of 10 seniors, who made up the program's first signing class.

The signing class is the ranked No. 42 in the nation and No. 7 in the Central region according to Soccer Buzz magazine. And more importantly, it's the best in
Conference USA.

"All positions are open, and there will be a battle to see who wants to start," said Solberg.

Sinclair is the top recruit of the class and should step into the Cougar defense immediately. Fellow defender Meghan Moreo, a native of Las Vegas, will
provide depth for the Houston backline.

Two recruits are from the Houston area. Julie Cole is from Lumberton in far east Texas and was a member of the South Texas Olympic Development team.
Kelly Golden, from Kingwood, was a member of the 2002 state championship team.

Beth Outlaw comes from Florida, where she led all high school girls in scoring with 18 goals and 23 assists.

"(Outlaw) has the best left foot I've ever seen," Solberg said.

The class includes two goalkeepers who will likely battle it out for the starting position with 2001 starter Robin Cate gone through graduation. Erin Ferguson
is from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and Sarah Webster hails from Indianapolis.

"Erin is little taller, Sarah is smaller, but both are aggressive. They're not afraid to punch," Solberg said.
