Programs help adults read

Four million Texans, nearly a quarter of the state's adult population, are unable to read basic signs or fill out a job application.
 

Hagel speaks on terrorism

Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, America is entering "a new seriousness of purpose that will define our generation," said Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.), one of the leading lights of the Republican Party, in a speech in Houston on Monday.
 

Cruiser sails again on the Internet

The "Galloping Ghost of the Java Coast" now sails the Cyberspace Sea. The World War II cruiser USS Houston can drop anchor on the desktops of Web users around the world, thanks to the efforts of UH's University Libraries Special Collections and Archives Department.
