The UH men's golf team signed its first recruit during the early signing period, it announced Monday. Zach Mowbray, who ranks among the best high
school golfers in the Southwest, is officially a Cougar.

Mowbray will join the team in Fall 2002 and should provide extra depth for the Cougars.

"We feel fortunate to have signed Zach," UH head coach Mike Dirks said. "He will be an impact player for us. With his work ethic and desire, he should
be a force in our lineup during the next four years."

Mowbray led Arizona's Red Mountain High School to two straight state championships and is currently the top-ranked player in his state. He has had
numerous top-10 finishes in American Junior Golf Association events across the nation.

The Cougars finished up their fall season with a 14th-place finish at the Long Cove Invitational tournament in Hilton Head, S.C. Earlier this fall, Houston
finished ninth at the Red River Classic and 14th at the Ridges Intercollegiate tournament.

The Cougars' next tournament is Feb. 13, 2002, in Kona, Hawaii.
