New column previews TV shows for the week

The Idiot Box

Jason C. Consolacion

For your reading (and eventual viewing) pleasure, The Daily Cougar Entertainment section is proud to present you with a weekly TV preview,
featuring one recommended show for each day of the week.

The shows are picked on the basis of what the Entertainment staff feels will be the best choice for that particular evening.

Ally McBeal -- Ally (Calista Flockhart) has gone through some crazy roller coaster rides in and out of relationships. Tonight's episode will bring
another one.

Actor/rocker Jon Bon Jovi makes his first appearance on the show tonight as Ally's new love interest. After buying a new house, Ally hires a
handyman (Bon Jovi) to fix the house's problems.

Inevitably, love is in the air. The show airs at 7 p.m. on FOX.

Smallville -- This new series chronicles the life of comic book hero Superman during his high school years as the awkward Clark Kent.

In this week's episode, Clark (Tom Welling) and his newfound powers are discovered by a corrupt policeman (Cameron Dye) who blackmails
the teenager into committing illicit tasks for the cop. The last son of Krypton tries his best to refuse.

The show airs at 8 p.m. on the WB.

Muhammad Ali 60th Birthday Celebration -- Fresh off the heels of the release of Ali, the greatest boxer ever to step in the ring will be honored
in this celebrity-filled party.

Will Smith (who stars as Muhammad Ali in the new film), Eddie Murphy, Samuel L. Jackson, Magic Johnson, and Damon and Keenan Ivory
Wayans will appear at the celebration. Mariah Carey and R. Kelly will perform.

The celebration airs at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Friends -- In what has been said to be the show's last season, quite a few subplots have surfaced in the show about America's favorite sextet.

Other than Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) being pregnant with her ex-boyfriend Ross' (David Schwimmer) child, a new twist was unveiled last week.
It appears that Joey (Matt LeBlanc) has discovered "more-than-friends" feelings for Rachel.

This week, Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) confronts Joey about his situation while Ross and Rachel discover the sex of their child.

Friends
airs at 7 p.m. on NBC.

Dark Angel -- Alec (Jensen Ackles) attempts to clean up his past after he comes to realize the ex-girlfriend he was forced to murder may still
be alive.

Also starring the lovely Jessica Alba, Dark Angel airs at 7 p.m. on FOX.

Saturday Night Live -- Orange County star Jack Black will be at the helm of this week's episode. The Strokes, who will be in Houston later this
month, are the show's music guests.

SNL airs at 10:30 p.m. on NBC.

The Simpsons -- Funnyman Ben Stiller guest stars in Sunday's episode in which Springfield is declared the "World's Fattest Town."

The show airs at 7 p.m. on FOX.
