idea for a televised Daily Cougar

The Student Publications Committee heard
a suggestion that The Daily Cougar should take to the airwaves at its January
The committee, which oversees The Daily
Cougar and the Houstonian yearbook, was approached by senior communication-RTV
major Jason Ugorji, who is also the president of
the Student Video Network, with the idea
to work in conjunction with a cable television show.
Ugorji said he believed the Cougar could
reach a wider audience if it were to broadcast a short show every night
on Access Houston, a commercial-free cable station that airs
community programming. Ugorji said he
began an internship at Access Houston this semester.
Committee members expressed concern that
readership might decrease if people already knew what the news would be,
and that the necessary equipment might be too
expensive. However, they also noted that
this type of media convergence is a growing trend.
After a short discussion of the idea, committee
members asked Ugorji to submit his idea in a formal proposal for further
consideration. He agreed to do so.
Reports from the departments within Student
Publications indicated that The Daily Cougar is in good shape, and the
Houstonian is ahead of schedule for the year.
