Lecture will focus on climate

Cougar News Services

James D. Robertson, managing director of Rannoch Petroleum in Fort Worth, will be the speaker for the Milton Dobrin Memorial
Lecture, sponsored by the department of geosciences.

The free event will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Room 117, Science and Research Building I.

Robertson will discuss the scientific community's understanding of global climate changes, the data that provide the basis for
predicting future climate changes and the issue of human-induced global warming through the introduction of greenhouse gases into
the atmosphere.

"Climatic stability is not an option for the Earth," Robertson said.

"By appreciating climate science, the geophysical community will be better able to participate in social and economic debates about
human-induced climate changes and whether humans should proactively try to influence future variations in Earth's climate."
