Career Day offers a wide variety of speakers

The fifth annual Bioscience Career Day, sponsored by the UH Biology and Biochemistry department, is today and will include representatives
from graduate and undergraduate schools and Houston companies to help place students in various positions. Participants can learn more about
summer internships, potential jobs and tips on gaining acceptance into graduate and medical schools.

The following is a list of speakers for the event. Speakers will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with all presentations taking place in the
Athletic/Alumni Center.

10:30 a.m.: University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center ­ Peter Hu, executive coordinator, Cytogenic Technology Program and Medical

11 a.m.: UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Allied Health Program ­ Christina Alapat, program director, Histotechnology and Cytotechnology.

11:30 a.m.: BioHouston (formerly Southeast Texas Biotech Park) ­ John E. Walsh Jr., president; Tim Graves, operation manager and Arthur
Vailas, UH vice chancellor of research and intellectual property

Noon: UH Law Center ­ Tanya Darnell, assistant director of admissions.

12:30 p.m.: Sigma-Genosys "Gene Expression for Fun & Profit" ­ Paul Appreddu, principal scientist.

1 p.m.: UT Houston Graduate Program in Biomedical Science ­ Victoria Knutson, assistant dean of admissions.

1:30 p.m.: National Science Foundation GK-12 Fellows Program ­ Julie Overlease, Rice University program coordinator

2 p.m.: Baylor College of Medicine and Allied Health Programs ­ Kathy Crawford, program coordinator and Melody Miller-Wasik, program

2:30 p.m.: Quest Diagnostics ­ Dee Vu, human resources director

3 p.m.: UH College of Pharmacy "Overview of Admissions Process" ­ Paige Pitman, director of recruitment

3:30 p.m.: Princeton Review "Tips on Getting into Grad School" ­ Linda Guardiola, graduate outreach director.
