Tanneberger wins C-USA POW

Cougar Sports Services

The UH volleyball team looks to keep its record unblemished against Lamar at 7:30 p.m. today in Hofheinz Pavilion. The 7-0 Cougars will take to the court with the Conference USA Player of the Week, senior hitter Jennifer Tanneberger.

Tanneberger tallied 66 kills, 19 digs and 12 blocks during the Cougars' 3-0 romp through the Rice Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The San Antonio native was also named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Tanneberger also averaged a .526 hitting average, 18.7 kills and four blocks per game against Texas Christian, Louisiana-Lafayette and Rice. The senior leads the team with 134 kills and 38 blocks.

But while the Cougars will be well stocked with talent (seniors Jane Anne Karasek Donna Sellen were named to the All-tournament team), Lamar will also bring its share of talent to Hofheinz Pavilion.

The Cardinals' Natalie Sarver was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her play in the Mississippi State Classic. The senior recorded 62 kills and 49 digs against Boston College, Samford and Mississippi State.

Sarver's 34 kills against Samford tied a school record. Sarver is ranked No. 1 in the SLC with 5.05 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. She's fifth in the conference with 3.62 digs.

Lamar comes to Houston with a 3-3 record. Houston's 7-0 record is its best start since 1987. The 7-0 Cougars are off to their best start since 1987. The Cougars defeated the Cardinals on Aug. 31.
