The UH golf team's hunt for a 17th National Championship begins Saturday.

The Cougars will travel to Jonesborough, Tenn., for the two-day Ridges Intercollegiate tournament.

It will be the opening tournament of the season for the Cougars.

The Cougars will face an elite field, including some of the top golf teams in the country.

The competition will include No. 5 Wake Forest, No. 12 Auburn, No. 13 Tennessee, No. 16 Augusta State, No. 17 North Carolina, No. 19 Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Duke, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Michigan, South Carolina and Texas Christian.

Conference USA foe TCU enters the tournament as two-time defending champions of the event.

Head coach Mike Dirks said he likes his team's chances on any given week and believes the Cougars can compete with any team in the country.

"I'm looking forward to the first two events," Dirks said. "That's what I'm pointing towards, because that can set your whole season up. I'm excited about it."

After a short break between competitions, as the Cougars will travel to the Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco to play in the Sooner Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
