Longoni leads UH tennis in Alabama

At least one UH tennis player entered Sundayis late competition at the Alabama Fall Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala., with a chance to finish in the top three.
Senior Analia Longonia and the UH tennis team competed in the Cougarsi first tournament of the season in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Senior Analia Longoni defeated Alabama-Birminghamis Natascha Immele 7-6, 6-4 but lost to Alabamais Sophie Cremer 6-4, 7-6. Freshman Miranda Foley beat Megan McCoy from Arkansas State 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, but lost to Auburnis Natalie Koppelle 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Longoni and Foley competed for a third-place finish Sunday. Results were not available of press time.
Freshman Sandra Blajer split her matches Saturday to earn the right to compete for a fifth-place finish. Junior Karine Urbin and freshman Cristina Flores, who both lost each of Saturdayis matches, competed for seventh place overall.
In doubles play Longoni and Urbin finished in third place, while Blajer and Flores finished in seventh place. The Cougars next play at the John E. Hoff/Varsity Tennis Courts at UH for the Cougar Fall Classic from Oct. 11 to 13.
