UH Moores School brings two events to students

Cougar Entertainment Services

The Houston weather dampened most studentsi plans this past weekend. Even though the sky is clearing, leaves are beginning to rustle and the seasonis about to change, the cityis weather will forever remain unpredictable.

With this in mind, the campusis entertainment venues, particularly the Moores School of Music, just might be the place to spend an evening.

Rain or shine, the state-of-the-art music facility is prepared to flaunt its musicianship and indulge a crowd.

The Moores School presents Joseph Evans and Timothy Hester in a faculty recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3.

Evans, a tenor, and Hester, a pianist, will reflect the life of internationally acclaimed tenor Josef Evanovich with a musical biography. Through songs and arias, the talents will examine the artistis professional accomplishments, ranging from the time he was first noticed to his renowned Britten Opera.

Evans and Hester will also present Evanovichis American Art Songs. The "Tenors of the Moores Opera Center" will then join the two in the spirit of this remembrance.

The usual tenor performance is composed of three presentations, but the Moores School of Music is scheduled to present six tenors, ranging from leggiero to dramatic.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the door for $6 (general admission) and $4 (students and seniors).

The Moores School also offers students somewhat of a treat to start off the week.

Along with Dr. Betsy Cook Weber, the Moores School will host to four high school choirs for the 12th Annual Choral Invitational. The choir performances begin at 7 p.m. Monday at the Moores Opera House.

Langham Creek, South Houston, Spring and Sterling High School will perform individually before the Moores School Concert Choral performs a concert. Admission is free.

The Moores Opera House is located off Interstate 45 at Cullen Blvd., near Entrance 16. For more information about either event, call the Moores School ticket office at 713-743-3313.
