Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
The people of Virginia and Maryland are not being occupied like the Palestinians are in Gaza and the West Bank as reported in Matthew Sheinbergis column on Thursday ("Israelis live in fear every day," Opinion).
Why not talk about the oppression and humiliation Arabs face every day in their normal daily routines?
Sheinberg should tell his Israeli friends to get out of the occupied territories and give the Palestinians their free state and then he could compare their actions with those of the sniper.
Sheinberg says Israel is a "small nation trying to protect itself." Why didnit he mention that itis an occupying army in occupied territories trying to exploit and oppress the Arabs?
Of course, Sheinberg canit say that; propaganda isnit as effective when telling both sides of the story, is it? The Israeli Defense Force does not only prevent terrorist acts; it commits them as well.
The selective assassinations of Palestinian leaders and the occupation of Arab land are justification, for all Palestinians to rise up and fight this occupation.
Americans didnit complain about roadblocks because they are not occupied; there were criminals on the loose, and the police were looking for them. Let the Israelis set up roadblocks in Israel, not in the territories.
When youire an occupying force, you will be treated as such. Israeli settlements have only increased in the West Bank and Gaza, yet you wonit give the original residents their right to return to their homes.
The Israelis want to terrorize the Arabs to guarantee security, but that would never work. Just like we kicked the IDF out of Lebanon in 1983, when they withdrew from Beirut like dogs with their tails between their legs, the Palestinians will kick the IDF out of the occupied territories and be able to live as a free people.
America and the rest of the world need to be fair and just.
Two hundred and fifty million Arabs wish to live peacefully with Israel. All weire asking for is the implementation of U.N. resolutions 242, 338 and 425.
Tell me, Mr. Sheinberg, is that too much to ask?
Letis see how youid feel if Mexico decided to invade Texas and become an occupying force.
Theyid set up roadblocks and not allow you to do anything you normally do. How would you like that, sir, or would your resistance then be justified?
The Palestinians will resist the occupation until the end.
