Joffrey Reynolds almost single-handedly beat the East Carolina Pirates.

While a 41-carry, 300-yard rushing day wasnit enough to keep the Cougars from falling 54-48 in triple overtime Saturday, it was enough to earn the senior running back the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week award Monday.

He is the third UH player to win a C-USA POW award this season. Senior safety Hanik Milligan won the Defensive POW on Sept. 2 while sophomore kicker Dustin Bell won for the weekis best special teams player Sept. 16. It is the first time an offensive player has won the award since Reynolds won Sept. 18, 2000.

Reynoldsi 1,261 yards (140.11 per-game) ranks him fifth in the nation among running backs. Saturdayis performance was the third-highest for a Division I-A rusher this year (Central Michiganis Robbie Mixon ran for 377 yards while Coloradois Chris Brown posted a 309-yard game).

He is the first Cougar to rush for 300 yards in one game. The performance beat Paul Gipsonis 282-yard day Nov. 23, 1968. His 41 carries are also a school record. With 2,663 career yards, the senior is now fifth on the all-time Cougar list for rushing yards 106 behind Gipson for No. 4.

The Cougars (4-5, 2-4 in C-USA) next travel to Cincinnati to play the Bearcats at 1 p.m. Saturday.
