Letters to the Editor

Empty space

To the editor:

I am surprised to see many students expressing their concerns regarding the use of the study space on the second floor of the Oberholtzer Hall. They claim that it is the only quiet place in the building where they study at night. I have been working on the same floor for the last two semesters, mostly in the evenings. Except for the tutors and students in the Urban Experience Program, which has its office on the same floor, no one uses this space most of the time. I find it difficult to believe these students are concerned about a study area they rarely use, and one that is more useful for a program that is helping a great deal of its co-residents.

In my understanding and personal experience, UEP is a program that reached out to many under-privileged students, helping them financially and academically. Many students, including those affiliated with UEP and many who aren't, benefit from its tutoring services. The people protesting against such a program are conveniently forgetting the benefits of the program located in Oberholtzer Hall.
