Hadnot selected for all-star game

Cougar Sports Services

Rex Hadnot is going to Vegas. But he won't be there for pleasure -- or at least too much of it.

The UH senior center has been selected to play in the Las Vegas All-American Classic on Jan. 17, 2004. The college all-star football game is held at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.

Senior center Rex Hadnot is looking toward a trip with some of the nation's best college football players. Hadnot was selected to participate in the Las Vegas All-American Classic.

Hadnot will play for the West squad and is among 110 college seniors selected to play from among the top football schools in the country.

Hadnot has started 32 consecutive games as either guard or center and was a preseason Conference USA First Team selection.

He is currently on the watch lists of both the Rimington Award (awarded to the nation's top center) and the Outland Trophy (for the nation's top interior lineman) and was a member of the Lombardi Award (top lineman) Watch List earlier this season.

Hadnot continues a rich Houston tradition of Cougars playing in postseason all-star games.

Last season safety Hanik Milligan took part in the East-West Shrine Game, while running back Joffrey Reynolds, safety Jesse Sowells and offensive tackle Rufus Williams played in the Paradise Bowl.

Hadnot becomes the 138th Cougar to take part in this all-star tradition. Players, coaches, professional scouts and, most of all, the fans will enjoy a week's worth of fun in Las Vegas beginning Jan. 11 when the players arrive and are treated to a welcome party.

In addition to the serious business of practices with their respective East or West squads and skills tests from the NFL scouts, plenty of action can be found at fan festivals, hospital and school visits, youth football camps, a banquet, a golf tournament, All-American Classic Experience and a Friday concert.
