The Daily Cougar
In singles, Kami Miller continued her success defeating Gloriann Lopez (3-6, 6-1, 10-8), while Tiffany McLoughlin defeated Lindsay McBride (6-2, 6-1). Yolandi Terblanche nearly had a third point for the Cougars in singles before she fell to Ana Cetnik (6-4, 5-7, 10-3). The two victories in singles would be the only points recorded for the team as they fell 5-2 against the Horned Frogs.
In their match against the Lady Mavericks on Friday, the Cougars fought hard for the close 4-3 victory. In singles, the Cougars lost in the top three slots. It was Terblanche against Anete Rozkalne (6-3, 6-2) and Miller against Gretel Hach (6-0, 6-2) who brought the team back to life with their wins in the No. 4 and No. 5 slots. With a default win in the No. 6 slot by McLoughlin, the Cougars tied up the match 3-3 with doubles as the last hope for a win.
With power house senior Biljana Dimovska and Terblanche in the No. 1 slot and senior Diana Martin and Miller in the No. 2 slot, the two teams came away with 8-4 victories securing the final point and giving the Cougars the win.
The Cougars now stand at 12-7 on the season and 0-5 against ranked teams. The loss to the Frogs could possibly hinder the Cougars placement high in the conference tournament at the end of the month. The Cougars still have a chance to surpass last season's record of 15-10 going into the tournament.
The team will continue on the road to face Tulsa
at noon Saturday in Oklahoma.
